On
the occasion of the official foundation of the
Institute for Maltese Culture (IMC), His Excellency,
the Ambassador of France Mr Rondeau and his wife Mrs
Rondeau accepted the invitation extended by Mrs.
Marie-Amélie Dewavrin, president of the Institute
and personally visited one of the main conservation
projects being undertaken by the Institute. The
project relates to the restoration of the
eighteenth-century Baroque chapel dedicated to Saint
Cathaldus in Rabat and its underlying early
Christian catacombs dating to the fourth century
AD.The IMC is a non-governmental agency whose main
objective is to assist in the protection,
conservation and dissemination of Maltese
architectural and cultural heritage. IMC has
undertaken to finance and oversee the restoration of
the church interior and a professional lighting
scheme for the church and the catacombs. His
Excellency, The Ambassador was welcomed by the
Archpriest of the diocese of Rabat, Canon Louis
Suban who provided a brief history of the chapel and
the catacombs which date to the fourth century AD.
Also, attending the visit was architect Dr. Conrad
Thake, specialist in the Baroque architecture who is
in charge of the restoration works and Ing Stephen
Buttigieg, the electrical engineer in charge of the
lighting installation. |

L'institut pour la culture maltaise et l'Institut de
Pharmacologie Moléculaire et Cellulaire voudrais
annoncer qu'ils reçoivent les demandes de second
prix pour la promotion de la science qu'on appelle
Marie-Amélie Gleizes - Dewavrin Award pour la
science.
L'objectif de cette bourse vise à reconnaître les
Maltais travaillant dans le domaine de la science à
Malte qui ont excellé dans la promotion de leur
travail hors de Malte et, ce faisant, contribuer à
améliorer l'image de Malte et de ses scientifiques
dans le domaine international.
Ce prix est sous le patronage de l'Ambassadeur de
Malte en France et à l'ambassadeur français à Malte.
Un jury de scientifiques internationaux a été formée
pour juger les candidatures reçues.
Le jury se compose de:
Prof Michel Franck. (École Vétérinaire de Lyon)
Professeur Jean-Alexis GRIMAUD (Professeur de
médecine de Paris VI)
Prof Jean-Pierre Gauthier (Professeur à l'Université
Claude Bernard)
Prof Carmelo. AGIUS (Professeur à l'Université de
Malte et le destinataire de la dernière Le président
de ce jury est le Révérend Professeur Peter
Seraccino Inglott. Dr Tonio Fenech sera également
aider le jury.
La personne qui sera choisie par le jury pour une
œuvre d'excellence participant a la promotion d'un
travail hors de Malte recevra la somme de dix mille
euros.
Les résultats du jury seront annoncés plus tard dans
l'année.
Les candidats à cette bourse doivent envoyer une
lettre indiquant les raisons pour lesquelles ils

Gleizes - Dewavrin Award for Science 2009
The Institute For
Maltese Culture and The Institute of Cellular
Pharmacology would like to announce that they are
receiving applications for the second award for the
promotion of science called the Marie-Amelie Gleizes
- Dewavrin Award for Science.
The aim of this award is to recognize Maltese people
working in the field of science in Malta who have
excelled in promoting their work out of Malta and in
doing so help to improve the image of Malta and its
scientists in the international field.
This award is under the patronage of the Maltese
Ambassador in France and the French Ambassador in
Malta.
A jury of international scientist has been assembled
to judge the applications received.
The Jury consists of:
Prof. Michel FRANCK. (Veterinary School of LYON)
Prof. Jean Alexis GRIMAUD (Professor of Medicine
Paris VI)
Prof. Jean Pierre GAUTHIER (Professor at the
University Claude BERNARD)
Prof. Carmelo. AGIUS (Professor at the University of
Malta and recipient of the last award for science).
The chairman of this jury is Reverend Professor
Peter Seraccino Inglott. Dr Tonio Fenech will also
assist the jury.
The person that will be chosen by the jury as
exhibiting a work of excellence in the promotion of
science out of Malta will receive the sum of Ten
Thousand Euros.
The results of the Jury will be announced later on
in the year.
